Maria Carrillo Puma Football - Your Hometown Team
Posted on: 2009-08-11
Hello,
My name is Gordy Ross, head JV football coach at Maria Carrillo High School. I have for many years thought it would be nice to make a connection between residents of the Oakmont community and our football program. Our student body is represented by young people that live as far up the valley as Kenwood (if there were teenagers in Oakmont, they would attend Maria Carrillo!). We are, essentially, Oakmont's home town team.
I would love to find a way to get Oakmont residents involved with our program. Whether attending a game on Friday night or helping with some of the logistics of setting up the field on game day... or who knows what other involvement.
My intent with this correspondence is to find out where to start. Perhaps there are clubs or groups that would like to take the lead. Whatever the case, Head varsity coach Jay Higgins and I would be happy to meet with any interested parties on how to promote your hometown team - Maria Carrillo High School Puma Football.

| Increase fees at the golf club
Posted on: 2009-08-10
I just received a letter from the golf club that my fees were going to increase and it was going to be retroactive for three months. This is not a time to be increasing the cost of anything much less an item that i can easily get along without, i have dropped the club so instead of them getting my monthly dues, plus the increase they get nothing. I am in business, we are cutting our costs not increasing our fees.

| May we rent your extra car this winter?
Posted on: 2009-08-20
My husband and I will be staying in Oakmont Village for Jan and Feb (to try it out) and are looking to rent a car for that approximate time period.
We are retired and live near Philadelphia but most of our kids and grandkids live around SF so we're thinking of moving to your area.
Do you, or someone you know, have an extra car that we could 'borrow' in exchange for a reasonable fee? If yes, please email us soon. Thank you! lynn seng and Art Shostak

| LIBERTY OFFERS Free Tax Returns For Those Who Qualify
Posted on: 2008-02-18
Date 02-18-2008
Liberty Tax Service Files Free Returns For Taxpayers Who Don’t Meet Regular Filing Requirements:
Many Qualify for Rebates, but Must File a 2007 Return to Benefit
Santa Rosa, Ca. The tax stimulus package means rebates for most taxpayers, including people who would not normally file a tax return.
If you are eligible for a payment, all you have to do is file a 2007 tax return. Liberty Tax Service is offering to prepare tax returns at no charge until March 31st for select taxpayers who have no tax liability. Low income workers, or those who receive Social Security benefits or veterans’ disability compensation, pension or survivors benefits received from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2007 will be eligible to receive a payment of $300 ($600 on a joint return) if they had at least $3,000 of qualifying income.
Qualifying income includes Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits, certain veterans’ benefits, and earned income, such as income from wages, salaries, tips and self-employment. While these people might not normally be required to file a tax return because they do not meet the filing requirement, they must file a 2007 return in order to receive a rebate.
“Liberty Tax Service wants to help people who do not normally have to file a return get the rebate they are entitled to receive. Many people who receive Social Security and veterans benefits are likely to overlook this opportunity to get the stimulus payment. Last year, over 30 million taxpayers missed the telephone excise tax credit that was due to them. We don’t want that to occur with the tax stimulus package,” states Barb Mix, Owner of Liberty Tax Service on Montgomery Drive. “Liberty is known for our commitment to give back to the communities that support our company. This is just another way we can help out.”
Liberty Tax Service will be mounting a public awareness campaign to ensure that everyone entitled to a stimulus payment is alerted. Anyone who has questions can e-mail taxrebates@libertytax.com for more information. Representatives from Liberty Tax Service are available to comment on this program as well.
We have several Liberty Tax offices throughout Sonoma County. For the nearest Liberty Tax office call 1-866-871-1040.

| Santa Rosa Seniors and Community Leaders Help Build New Senior Center
Posted on: 2008-03-27
In an environment fraught with budget cuts, it is exciting to witness the change that can be brought about by organized citizens.
The Seniors, Inc. organization will celebrate a major milestone on April 8th when they present approved plans for a new senior center to Santa Rosa City Council members. Seniors, Inc. is a fundraising group dedicated to building an addition to the Finley Community Center which will provide space for senior focused services and programs. The nonprofit has raised close to $7 million for the new wing. Building plans being presented to the City Council have been approved and paid for through project funding. Significant contributions to the campaign have been dedicated by the City of Santa Rosa and by award winning local architect, Larry Simons.
Larry Simons was attracted to the public/private partnership several years ago and came forward with a $500,000.00 donation from the Lawrence and Gudrun Simons Fund. Larry has also designed the new two-story addition which will provide over 26,000 square feet of space for health and wellness programs, continuing education, expansion of the arts and intergenerational companionship for seniors.
With Santa Rosa’s senior population skyrocketing, the timing for this facility couldn’t be better. Within the next 12 years the number of seniors is expected to rise from 27,000 to 60,000 locally – leaving 1 in very 3 Santa Rosa residents over the age of 60. The current Senior Center on Bennett Valley Rd. is not equipped to handle growing population demands and City of Santa Rosa budget constraints prevent them from being able to fund the entire project themselves.
All are welcome to attend the City Council Presentation, as well as to honor Larry Simons’ contributions to our community. In addition, Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks presents “The Architecture of Lawrence Simons, F.A.I.A.: Sonoma County 1969-2007”, an exhibition of his photography on display at the City Hall Council Chambers thru May 19.
