Visual Aids Workshop

Visual Aids Workshop is Oakmont's very own creation, a unique and most worthwhile endeavor. Every Monday morning about 100 Oakmonters meet to make books, puzzles and games for the blind, partially sighted and mentally handicapped. Meanwhile, many residents are at work in their garage workshops creating tactile aids from wood. These FREE tactile aids are produced and shipped to universities, resource teachers, training centers, hospitals, public and private agencies in 39 states, Canad, Guam, and an American school in Saudi Arabia. NONE of the 84 items is produced by a commercial company but has been designed by the Visual Aids Chair-people, in cooperation with teachers of the blind to meet their specifications. Can you glue? Cut? Assemble? Create? WE NEED YOU! Visit our workshops and see what we do! We are sure you will want to help the visually handicapped too, while enjoying the companionship of other Oakmonters.
